South Carolina Cancer Specialists serve LCRP patients in the Low Country

With two locations in the Low Country, SC Cancer Specialists offer advanced chemotherapy and other infusion services. Additionally, patients have access to the full range of services provided by the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion including genetic counseling, dietitian, survivorship program, board-certified pharmacists and clinical trials. Dr. Gary W. Thomas is the medical director of the St. Joseph’s/Candler-SC Cancer Specialists partnership. Dr. Thomas has been practicing oncology and hematology in the Low Country since 1993. He is joined by Dr. Gregory Haidemenos and Dr. J. Keegan Bakos.

The Highest Quality Cancer Care

SC Cancer Specialists successfully completed a three-year certification program for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet nationally recognized standards for quality cancer care. It is the only practice in the Low Country and Savannah region to earn the certification. The recognition comes from the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative Certification Program (QOPI).

About Gary W. Thomas, MD

Dr. Gary Thomas received his B.A. of Chemistry from the College of Charleston and medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Following that, he did his residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Georgia and was named chief resident. He completed his medical oncology fellowship at The Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest University. Dr. Thomas is board certified in medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Cancer Society and South Carolina Oncology Society. Dr. Thomas has been in practice in the Lowcountry of South Carolina since 1993 and has been the Medical Director of South Carolina Cancer Specialists since 2001. He accepted the Clinical Assistant Professor appointment to Medical University of South Carolina in 2006.
